I am the Recruitment and Transitions Coordinator for the University of Florida Honors Program. In this role, I take point on admission to the First-Year Honors Program and University Honors Program. I also coordinate summer orientation for incoming students, teach Honors courses, and advise select Honors student organizations. I enjoy teaching and mentoring Honors students because they are some of the brightest and most ambitious young leaders and scholars that the University has to offer.

I hold a PhD in Sociology from Florida State University. My research agenda is active, and my areas of interest are social stratification, allies and allyship (with a focus on the areas of race and sexualities), and higher education. I encourage students to meet with me if they hope to pursue senior thesis work in these areas, or if they’d simply like to learn more about graduate school, Sociology, or social scientific research as a career.

My dissertation examined how minoritized students attending two different college campuses - one primarily white and one primarily Black - understood and experienced diversity and inclusion based on the racial contexts of their home institutions. I have published in peer-reviewed journals on issues of inequality in social movements, higher education, and intimate relations - I invite you to read my works and contact me for discussion or invited talk/lecture.

In my free time I like to try new cooking recipes, play volleyball, catch up on good television, and explore new places while playing Pokémon Go. Always down to swap friend codes!

What is Sociology?

Put plainly, sociology is the scientific study of society, not limited to its development, its structures, and its functions. For more info, check out this definition provided by our discipline's national organization.
